Psychotherapy of alcoholism has been considered ineffective by most psychotherapists in the past. This has been resulted from the fact that most psychodynamic approaches for the treatment of alcoholism in the past has not been so effecdtive. But recently, many contemporary psychotherapists have insisted that a modified form of psychodynamic psychotherapy in the treatment of alcoholism can be effective. So the author has reviewed some articles to outline the
psychodynamics of alcoholism, indication, advantages, and disadvantages of individual psychotherapy, and one modified
form of individual psychotherapy. For more applicable form of individual psychotherapy, the treament approach must be
modified to fit in the specific problems of the alcoholic patients.
